What is Dataverse

Dataverse, formerly known as Common Data Service (CDS), is a cloud-based data platform offered by Microsoft as part of the Power Platform. It provides a secure, scalable, and extensible data store that can be used to store and manage data for a wide range of applications, including Dynamics 365, Power Apps, and Power Automate.

Dataverse is designed to make it easy for organizations to store and manage their data, with features such as data modeling, security, and governance.

Data modeling allows users to define the structure of their data, including entities, fields, relationships, and business rules, and then use that data to build and customize applications.

Dataverse provides robust security and governance capabilities, allowing administrators to control access to data and manage data changes through a set of security roles and permissions. It also provides auditing and reporting features, which make it easy to track changes to data and monitor data usage.

In addition to providing a data store, Dataverse also provides a set of APIs and connectors that can be used to integrate data from other sources, such as Excel, SharePoint, and other cloud-based services. This makes it easy to bring data from different sources into Dataverse and use it to build and customize applications.

Dataverse is used in a variety of scenarios:

Application Development: Dataverse can be used as a data store for custom applications and services, providing a secure, scalable, and extensible data platform that can be used to build and deploy applications quickly and easily.

Data Integration: Dataverse provides a set of APIs and connectors that can be used to integrate data from a wide range of sources, including Excel, SharePoint, and other cloud-based services. This makes it easy to bring data from different sources into Dataverse and use it to build and customize applications.

Business Process Automation: Dataverse can be used in conjunction with Power Automate, a low-code platform for automating business processes, to automate repetitive tasks and streamline business processes.

Customer Engagement: Dataverse can be used to store and manage customer data in Dynamics 365, a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) solution, providing a unified data store for customer information.

Dataverse is a versatile data platform that can be used in a wide range of scenarios to store and manage data, build and customize applications and services, and automate business processes. Its secure, scalable, and extensible architecture, as well as its integration with other Microsoft technologies, makes it an ideal platform for organizations looking to modernize their data management and application development processes.
